ABOUT WONDER ADVENTURE UGANDA LIMITED

WONDER ADVENTURES UGANDA LIMITED is an indigenous Ugandan based Travel Agency registered by the Government of Uganda under the Uganda Registration Services Bureau. We take you to the diverse collection of excursions which include bird watching trips, Gorilla and Chimpanzee expeditions, wildlife safaris, Guided nature walks, Primate encounters, adventure activities, cultural tours among others! We walk you tired in the jungles and come up to families of Gorillas, sit down with them and feel this experience. Our trips reach you to wild places that survive in the 21st Century and knowing them is the greatest luxury one can think of! And right there where humanity originated! Our safaris cover different destinations in Uganda and Rwanda and they are designed to create everlasting and unforgettable experience for our clients. Robert Kungujje – Managing Director Over 20 years experience in tourism

Robert was born on 18th/10/1972 and raised in Central Uganda from a Peasantry/farmer family. Holds a National Certificate in Tour Guiding and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

Robert lives 40km east of Kampala the capital City of Uganda near a government Protected Tropical Rain Forest – the Mabira Forest Reserve.

In 1996, Robert started working as a local Forest Tourist Guide with the Mabira Forest Reserve till 2008 before joining national tourist guiding. Since then he has worked with different Travel Agencies in Specialty bird watching before promoting his led Wonder Adventures Uganda Limited. As a specialised bird watcher, Robert boasts of total bird list of 815 species out of the Uganda’s total list of 1083 species. Besides specialty bird watching, Robert also specializes in touristic ecological interpretation he carries out in different ecosystems of Uganda. These ecosystems range from semi-arid areas, Savanna (woodlands and grasslands) through all tropical rain forests categories (low-land, semi altitude and montane), water bodies and not forgetting wetlands!.    

 

Summary of Robert’s work profile;

  • 1992-1994. Volunteered as a Community Health Worker under the Community based Health Care and Primary Health Care Program.
  • 1994/1995. Acquired field trainings on birds, animals and plants identification including their ecology with assistance from Uganda’s Forestry Department and Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) funded by European Union.
  • Established the Mabira Forest Guides and Extension Association for the delivery of Ecotourism services in Mabira Forest Reserve.
  • 1997–2001. Conducted Conservation Education in schools around Uganda’s Forests.
  • 1999 – In conjunction with Makerere University- Zoology Department, he surveyed the status of Nahan’s Francolin in Uganda’s forests – a globally threatened specie!
  • Surveyed the Biodiversity status for Mabira Forest Reserve led by the Makerere University and the African Tropical Biodiversity Network.
  • Co-founder of the Mabira Forest Integrated Community Organisation (MAFICO) a conservation NGO which manages the Griffin Falls Camp in Mabira Forest Reserve
  • Worked with the Forestry Department to develop an Environment Education pack for primary school teachers in Uganda.
  • Worked with Dr. Richard Fuller of Sheffield University, UK to survey on the decline and the effects of anthropogenic disturbances on Nahan’s francolin/Partridge in Mabira Forest Reserve, a project funded by the BP Conservation UK.
  • Designed and developed the forest trail network for the Rainforest Eco lodge located in Mabira Forest Reserve.
  • 2006/2007  Trained Forest Eco guides   
  • 2008 – Surveyed and inventoried Birds and Plants species along River Nile, with funds from Adrift Adventure Company.
  • 2012 – Trained in Zipline establishment and management in Mabira Forest Reserve, a project which was funded by the American Peace Corps.
  • 2013 – Acquired trainings on Ugandan Mangabey (primate) habituation, a project that enabled the specie to be the fourth habituated primate in Uganda after the Mountain Gorilla, Chimpanzee and Golden monkey. The Mangabey is now a tourism product in Mabira Forest Reserve.
  • 2014 – 2018. Part time field instructor with Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in areas of bird watching, nature/wildlife interpretation and Ecotourism.
  • 2023 – Robert is a licensed national guide by the Uganda Tourism Board, a government body responsible tourism quality assurance in Uganda.
  • 2022 – Robert is a certified National Tourist Guides assessor by the Directorate of Industrial Training. The program enables guides to acquire licenses for Level 1 guiding in Uganda
  • 2024 – Participated in advanced bird watching training,  a process which graduates a bird guide from spotting and identification to critical observation and description of birds
  • 2024 – working with Nature and Livelihoods – a Ugandan NGO,  in detecting birds species richness in non gazzetted tourism areas in Mabira Forest. The goal is to enable the expansion of avitourism activities for the enhancement of sustainable forest conservation.
